The Full Story

About

MHM, or The Mental Health Movement Chandigarh, started off in December 2019 as a simple Instagram page meant to spread awareness about mental health issues. What was different about the content was that all of it was made by professional psychologists and entirely based on research, unlike many other social media handles.

Then, in 2020, The MHM Clinic was established, an online platform for affordable, trauma-informed, queer-friendly mental health services. MHM stood out as one of the rare organizations offering counseling services at rates as low as ₹250 per session or even FREE of cost!

As of today, The MHM Clinic is now a collaboration of many counselors across the country who are dedicated to continuing this noble cause to the best of their abilities.

Mission

To train as many mental health professionals as possible to be trauma-informed, destigmatize trauma and mental illnesses, and provide communities with the help they need.

Vision

To help create an India where there is acceptance and no stigma against mental health problems related to trauma and to empower communities through psychoeducation and awareness.

Meet Adrija

Founder/Psychologist/Writer

Adrija Chakrabarti (she/they) started their career as a psychologist and writer in early 2019. At the end of the year, they came up with the idea of MHM and have been dedicated to it ever since.

As a trauma survivor themselves, Adrija's work focuses mainly on helping clients recover from sexual/childhood/emotional abuse.

Outreach Programmes

At MHM, we offer customised training programmes to spread awareness about trauma and how to recover from it. The training material can be tailored to suit the needs of the target audience based on their educational background and domicile setting. In the past, MHM has worked on such outreach programmes with NGOs and universities in both urban and rural settings.

Collaborations

MHM is also associated with the Chandigarh Psychological Wellbeing Council, which functions under the Women's Indian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (WICCI). The two platforms collaborate in their community service to fight stigma against mental health and to make mental-health services more accessible to people in need.

Feminist Leadership

In 2022, our founder, Adrija, was one of the 30 feminist leaders from across the country selected as a part of the Feminist Leadership Lab organised by Gender at Work India and UN Women. As a representative of MHM, they used this platform to advocate for the need of a trauma-informed lens in the feminist movement.

Milestones

Hitesh*

"During the most turbulent times of my life, I was recommended to consult Adrija/MHM by a friend. Initially skeptical of pursuing therapy, gradually I gave way to it seeing the most professional yet sensitive approach followed by her/them. Though it's a part of their job, it touches your life to the very core of it. Can't ever be enough thankful for all the help!"
